A Palm Sunday Prayer
O Lord, just as Jesus approached Jerusalem on that first
Palm Sunday,
he continues
to approach
every human heart
like a city,
approaches us
even today.
By the
power of the Spirit,
let us welcome him as
our Lord and Savior and
take him by the hand and
join ourselves to him and
live out
the Gospel
day after day.
Let us be
loyal,
brave,
and offer him
the hard obedience
that
changes
us
and
our world.
O Lord, you are hope of the world and we pray that
you would
give us hope;
the hope
that beyond
the worst the world can do,
there is such a best
that not even the world
can take it from us;
the hope
that none
whom you love
are ever finally lost,
not even to death.
And
in the name of
the One who suffered
loneliness and pain
for our sake,
forgive us,
and let die in us
all that keeps us
from you and from each other and
from what we have it in us at our
best and bravest
to become.
And
we pray that
the Holy Spirit
of the Christ who rose again
would arise and live
within us,
that we may be his body,
that we may be his feet
to walk into the world’s pain,
that we may be his hands
to heal,
his heart
to break,
if need be,
for the love of the world.
O Lord,
make
Christs
of us all!
And once again, O Lord, we pray for the people of the
Ukraine,
that victory would be theirs,
that the suffering would end,
that peace would cover the land.
Grant them
strength enough
to overcome
the evil
being done to them,
and move
the nations of the world
to come to their aid
even more than they have.
And we pray, O Lord, for those who are struggling with
illness or disease,
those undergoing treatment,
those who are recovering,
those who are dying,
those who are grieving,
those who are battling depression,
those who can barely
keep their heads above water.
Heal, strengthen, comfort, lift them, help them find a way!
Be there for them!
Let us be there for them!
O Lord, let us take you by the hand and
walk with you
each and every day,
and through our obedience
to your way of love and kindness,
help you bring
your kingdom
of peace and hope.
Amen.
